I love the following quote.
It's from the book  Job's Body by Deane Juhan.

"Touching hands are not like pharmaceuticals or scalpels.  They are like flashlights in a darkened room.  The medicine they administer is self-awareness.  And for many of our painful conditions, this is the aid that is most urgently needed."

It's something to think about. Do you live with chronic pain, discomfort or stress? It can be hard to admit that we are in pain. We push through it, attempting to 'be strong'. Many of us live with pain for years on end, and even surrender to it, believing that we might always have to live with it.

Pain is a signal, not an end. If we listen to what it is telling us, we may be able to free ourselves from it. Why should we hide it, ignore it, numb it with drugs or suffer through it? The sooner we address our pain, the sooner we may be pain free.

Shiatsu is just one of many natural ways to assess and treat pain. It is much cheaper than most treatments in the conventional medical model, and goes as far as preventing future imbalance. I hope to see our medical model continue to expand in order to integrate alternative and preventative medicine. Perhaps one day a doctor will recommend massage before prescribing a pain medication!

With full integration of both Western and Traditional methods, we will find ourselves in a place that is able to thrive with not only a 'lack of sickness', but an abundance of health and wellness.
