Hello friends, I'll admit, I am totally unprepared for the Newsletter this month! It sure seems to have snuck up on me. The reason is that I've spent the week with my family because my grandmother had a stroke on Monday. It is an incredibly sad but precious time, and it is a good reminder of the important things in life. To be able to take care of my grandmother, it is absolutely essential that I take care of myself. We often forget to put self care as a priority in life. But without it, there isn't a strong foundation to live from. My friend always reminds me to 'put the big rocks in first'. What does that mean? It is as if our time is like a big mason jar that we have to fill up as we choose. And all the things we need to do are like different sized rocks, some more important than others. If we don't put the big rocks in the jar first, we will never be able to fit them in. What are my big rocks? Healthy eating, enough sleep, yoga, family and friends, keeping a clean house and so on....It is so easy to focus on the small details and to become overwhelmed with what we want and have to do in life. But when we put the big rocks in first, we feel better and everything else falls into place. That is my bit for the day. Take care of yourself and then you will be able to love and care for those around you. I really believe it needs to go in that order. So take care and I'll see you soon! Susie SUMMER CUPPING SPECIAL Are you curious about Cupping? All through the summer I am offering sliding scale cupping sessions, so you can try it out! Sessions will last about an hour and will include a full intake just as in any other session. What is it and why do we use it? Cupping has been used as a folk remedy for thousands of years all around the world. More recently the practice has been refined and developed by acupuncturists, shiatsu and massage therapists. It involves the use of reverse pressure suction by placing glass or plastic cups onto the skin. Cupping has immediate effects and is great for alleviating pain and tension. Combined with Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, Cupping can also be used in the treatment of digestive ailments, the common cold and menstrual issues. Does it hurt? Some people experience a mild burning or pinching sensation when the cups are first placed. The strength of suction is adjustable, so it should never feel uncomfortable. The sensations are stronger at first and usually dissipate within a minute or so. Like bodywork, there may be some discomfort when an area is sore or tight, but it should be a good therapeutic pain that is easy to relax into. Pricing One hour, including intake $15-45 sliding scale, pay as able Please contact me with any questions or to set up a session!
